Responsive Scripture Reading
Leader - Before we believed in Christ, our nature was evil. We disobeyed, rebelled, and ignored God. The Christian, however, has a new nature. God has crucified the old rebellious nature and replaced it with a new loving nature . God has declared us not guilty, and we need no longer live under sin's power. God does not take us out of the world or make us robots; but now we are free to live for Christ
People - You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for he forgave all our sins. He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross. In this way, he disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross.Colossians 2:13-15 (NLT)
Leader - The fact that all people, without exception, commit sin proves that without Christ we have a sinful nature. We are lost in sin and cannot save ourselves. Only through being united with Christ's perfect life can we become good in God's sight.
People - Once you were dead because of your disobedience and your many sins. You used to live in sin, just like the rest of the world, obeying the devil—the commander of the powers in the unseen world. He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God. All of us used to live that way, following the passionate desires and inclinations of our sinful nature. By our very nature we were subject to God’s anger, just like everyone else.Ephesians 2:1-3 (NLT)
Leader - When a judge in a court of law declares the defendant not guilty, all the charges are removed from his record. Legally, it is as if the person had never been accused. When God forgives our sins, our record is wiped clean. From his perspective, it is as though we had never sinned. Christ purchased our freedom from sin, and the price was his life.
People - Yet God, with undeserved kindness, declares that we are righteous. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins. For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood. This sacrifice shows that God was being fair when he held back and did not punish those who sinned in times past,
Romans 3:24-25 (NLT)
Leader - And I will forgive their wickedness, and I will never again remember their sins.”
Hebrews 8:12 (NLT)
People - For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.
Ephesians 6:12 (NLT)
Christ Triumphant
In His Life
Meet my need Lord, Meet my need Lord, Meet my need just now.
I am waiting and thou art coming to meet my need just now.
Lord, I will lift mine eyes to the hills
Knowing my help is coming from You
Your peace, You give me in time of the storm
You are the source of my strength
You are the strength of my life
I lift my hands in total praise to you
You are the source of my strength
You are the strength of my life
I lift my hands in total praise to you
Amen
