The Primary Learner

Learner Profiles

What we know about the primary learner:

  • Primary learners are rapidly constructing meaning about the world around them.
  • Children develop at their own unique pace, at a level of understanding just beyond their current knowledge.
  • Children have different ways of representing what they know
  • Children learn best in an environment where they feel safe and cared for.

The Benefits of Using Learner Profiles:

  • Teachers can plan instruction and assessment that is personalized to each student.
  • When students are engaged in the process of creating their own profile, they have a better understanding of their own unique learning needs.
  • Through a class profile, teachers can group students according to their learning styles, interests, and personalities.
