ON THE JOB

COUNTRY AND LANGUAGE

• I chose Australia
• I’m moving there for a year and the culture is interesting
• English is the main language. Over 10 languages are spoken but in small percentages.
• I’m quite fluent in english. Some work related terms need to be learned but overall it isn’t a problem to use it.

CULTURE

• Australia and Finland are both countries with their own indigenous people.
• Their ways of living are obviously very different because the weather and biodiversity has always been different
• Indigenous people and traditions are different in both countries so day to day life is as well.

WORKLIFE

• Maximum work hours are 12h in a 24h day
• Average pay for a truck driver is about 32 AUD per h or 60 000 AUD per year
• Annual holiday is provided for in the NES (national employment standards)
• Australia puts a lot of effort to road safety. Bus drivers and some big companies have work uniforms but otherwise a shirt and trousers are recommended attire. Safety clothing is also necessary. (reflective vest etc.)
