HYPOTHERMIA❄️

  • will occur when the balance between the body's heat production and heat loss, have tipped towards heat loss for a prolonged period
  • the five different ways that you can suffer from hypothermia are convention 50%, radiation 30%, breathing 10%, evaporation 5%, and conduction 5%

HYPOTHERMIA❄️

  • the people at risk are babies, young children, people who are very thin with low body fat, and people who are wet from any cause
  • you never want to assume the person is dead because they might actually be alive

HYPOTHERMIA❄️

  • some symptoms from severe hypothermia are a slow heart rate and breathing, dilated pupils and coma, and the person might appear to be dead
  • some of the ways it can be treated are by removing wet clothing, not using direct heat, having warm drinks, and getting CPR

HYPOTHERMIA❄️

  • some general advice to avoid hypothermia are to dress with lots of layers, stay dry, get out of the cold as soon as you start to shiver, and ensure that there is adequate heating especially for elderly
  • children are in more danger than adults because they have less muscle
  • covering your head is important and will warm up your core

STEPS ON MAKING A FIRE🔥

  • choose a location for the fire
  • gather fuel like logs and twigs
  • pile some of the fuel where the fire is ready to be lit
  • ignite some material
  • transfer the flame to the actual fire
  • build up the fire by adding fuel
  • maintain the fire as needed

FIRE BUILDING🔥

  • to stay warm you will need to keep the fire going, and stay close to the fire without burning yourself
  • when you make a fire make sure you are not too close to any trees or bushes because you might light them on fire

STEPS ON BUILDING A SHELTER🌲

  • find a suitable place to build
  • search for an object to brace the shelter up
  • find sticks to lean against the brace
  • pile small branches and twigs over the stout sticks
  • pile small debris like leaves and moss over the frame
  • dig a pit for a fire

SHELTER BUILDING TIPS🌲

  • consider all available materials
  • stay away from possible poisonous plants
  • wear gloves to protect you from thorns, sharp edges, or even some insects
  • your shelter should prevent rain, snow, and animals from getting inside

SHELTER🌲

  • if you're in a life or death situation you are allowed to go into other people's houses
  • some different types of shelters are a teepee, log cabin, cave, and many other builds

FOOD🐺

  • ration the food that you have
  • if you have some snares, an excellent place to set them are on trails
  • pine needles make really good tea
  • some inner bark on different trees are edible
  • if you see any kind of animal like a bear coming towards you, do not run away, instead move slowly and silently away

food

  • vary your diet to make sure you get the appropriate proportions of fat, protein, carbohydrates, minerals and vitamins
  • you have to take advantage of everything available to eat

food

  • unless you are an experienced hunter, hunting animals for meat is inadvisable in a survival situation
  • if you see an animal too large to eat such as a bear do not try to kill it

HYDRATION💧

  • even though you might think you're not thirsty, your body needs it anyway so hydrate
  • dehydration can be caused by exercise, illness, or even just not drinking enough water

Hydration

  • a complication for dehydration is headaches
  • 75 percent of Americans are chronically dehydrated
  • dehydration causes fatigue
  • fatigue is a common dehydration symptom
  • hydration can boost your metabolism

hydration

  • thirst means you’re dehydrated
  • once you feel thirsty it means you are too late to start drinking
  • dehydration causes foggy memory and irritability
  • dehydration is one of the most common risk factors for kidney stones

hydration

  • Your body loses 2-3 litres of water each day through sweating and urination, more if you are hot, exerting a lot of energy, or are at high altitudes. This water must be replaced. Therefore, drink often.
  • To prevent this rest, keep cool, stay in the shade, and seek shelter.

hydration

  • do not wait until you run out of water before you look for more
  • avoid fatty foods, beverages with caffeine, and alcohol as they trigger digestion to use up the fluids
