PRESENTATION OUTLINE

MICROBIAL FUEL CELL

YEAR 3 ENRICHMENT MODULE :

PURPOSE OF PROJECT

  • To investigate if the variation of :
  • The type of sugar
  • Concentration of yeast
  • Will affect the voltage generated by MFC

HYPOTHESIS
1. We predict that fructose would produce the highest amount of voltage, because it is the sweetest type of sugar

2. We predict that the higher the concentration, the more voltage it would produce because there would be more yeast to take part in the reaction

DISSCUSSION

ANALYSIS
1. For the test of different sugars, fructose turned out to have produced the largest amount of voltage

2. For the test of the concentration of yeast, the results turned out to be really inconsistent

WE CAN INFER...

1. The sweeter the sugar, the better the compatibility to the yeast slurry, hence producing a higher voltage

WE CAN INFER....

2. The inconsistency in the results for the different concentration of yeast slurry, may be due to the fact that the concentration of yeast we use is too high for the reaction to take place, causing the results to be inconsistent

MAYBE...

Also, a possible experimental error that we may have committed is that we fill the visking tubing with the solutions using estimation, instead of measuring the exact amount we used, which may also be a cause of our inconsistent reading.

AND...

: We hope that through the results we obtained from this experiment, we can know what variables produces the largest amount of voltage
