Soundproofing

a need for a quieter place

The Problem

Some people need silence

From recording sick tracks or experimenting with something sound-sensible to the need of quiet or having Hyperacousis.

The need of soundproofing rooms or spaces has been around for decades

Other reasons may include

  • Loud neighbors
  • A local establishment (bar, karaoke)
  • Something is giving birth on the next house or smth. or mating season for stray animals >:v
  • Teenage son wants to start a band
  • Someone needs singing lessons
  • Make a home Theater!
  • Your band needs practice (a lot)

The factors

Area, Distance, Absorption, and Pressure

Distance

from source to receptor

The distance between the source and receptor is influential since the sound waves have to travel longer distances thus making the wavelength longer.

Absorption

of the soundwaves

absorption refers as the resistance or slowing that a material offers. Many materials are used as "mufflers" such as:

Absorbers

  • sponge
  • foam
  • wood
  • wool
  • cotton
  • grease/fat
  • almost anything that has mass

Pressure

atmospheric;  101,325 Pa (normally)

so, to create an "Anechoic" chamber its needed to amp up any of this factors, commonly applying damping tiles which increase absorption with their thickness and their design reflects most sounds.
