PRESENTATION OUTLINE

Women's

  Education

my topic is women's education

Education

education is a privilege that many don't have, especially women. we take it for granite every day, when some people will never experience and learn what we do.

bARRIERS

millions of girls around the world face barriers to education that boys do not.

Many struggle for the opportunity to go to school, see a doctor or be included in their communities. This has serious consequences including: low levels of enrollment in school, high levels of child marriage and way too many girls facing health risks from pregnancy and early child birth.

by Removing barriers like early marriage, gender-based violence, domestic slavery and human trafficking means not only a better life for girls, but a safer, and healthier world for all.

Poverty

many periphery countries especially have a lot of women living in poverty this is mostly due to that fact that they don't have an education or an opportunity to get an education. Therefore they are not able to support themselves and their families.

early Marriage

EVERY YEAR, APPROXIMATELY 14 MILLION GIRLS ARE MARRIED BEFORE THEY TURN 18, ACROSS COUNTRIES, CULTURES AND RELIGIONS. many are ROBBED OF THEIR CHILDHOOD, DENIED THEIR RIGHTS TO HEALTH, security and most of all EDUCATION.

Supporting the Family

women serve as a backbone for the family, they are the ones who do a lot of the work and they support the family. but to many they are seen as a burden.

everyday these women cook, clean, fetch water, work in fields, and do many chores around the house.

Labor

in many periphery or semi-periphery countries women and children work in fields tending to the food that will either be sold for money or food for the family. (subsistence ag.)

water

everyday 200 million work hours are consumed by women collecting water for their families. Women accomplish so little each day because the are too busy trying to survive. This is preventing them from getting an education. and its not just the mothers its also their girls. Many young girls stay home with their mothers to do daily chores and get water.

what we are doing here at school with h2o for life is helping provide wells for villages. this enables more girls to school, because they don't have to stay home and help get water.

Its amazing how one well can transform a community. And it is so cool to think that we are making a huge difference in the lives of these people.

conflict

war torn countries also contribute to the lack of girls and women with an education.

170 million

There are 170 million children across the world that do not attend school.. and of those children, 70 % are girls.

Goals & Dreams

Many girls have dreams just like us, some dream to be doctors or engineers, but sadly many will never have a chance to pursue their dreams and achieve their goals.

A Muslim extremist group called Boko Haram, whose name means Western education is a sin, kidnapped over 200 girls from a Nigerian school.

I believe that they are really just scared of empowered women

although if there is anything constructive that can come out of this tragedy, it is the awareness it has raised about the horror of forced marriage, human trafficking, gender-based violence, and how women are denied education.

Power

women do have power

today more and more woman are getting a chance

more women are involved in jobs

and more women are getting an education

Leaders

there are people stepping up, like Oprah
The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy Foundation provides funding for an Academy for Girls in South Africa, and is dedicated to helping its graduates attend colleges and universities. Oprah has contributed to the empowerment of girls and their families.

Benefits

It isn't just the girl that benefits from an education, it's the whole world essentially.

The girl
the family
the village/community
the country
the world

econmony

women also play a huge role in the economy.
For Example If India enrolled 1% more girls in secondary school, their GDP would
rise by $5.5 billion.

Change

change is happening and more women and girls are getting a chance

a voice

but we all need to speak up

"I raise up my voice, not so I can shout, but so that those without a voice can be heard... we cannot succeed when half of us are held back." this is a quote from malala.

One girl

with an education one girl can change the world.
