FAMILIES THAT LIVED ON A FARM

FEMALE CHORES

  • Women took care of the house and the children.
  • The women washed clothes, washed dishes, and cooked supper.

MALE CHORES

  • Men worked out side on the farm
  • Men tended the fields took care of the animals and killed the food that they ate.

SCHOOL

  • Most kids did not go to school because they had to stay home and work in the fields and on the farm.
  • If the children did go to school they would learn simple arithmetic and English.

FOOD

  • They ate all sorts of food out of the garden like corn, okra, tomatoes, lettuce, and turnip greens.
  • They ate meat that either the men in the family had hunted or a cow or pig that had been slaughtered

ENTERTAINMENT

  • For entertainment the families would shoot guns go hunting, fishing, playing tag, playing games
