What is the solar system?

  • Definition: The solar system consists of the sun and all the objects that are bound to it by gravity, including plants, moons. asteroids, and comets.
  • Importance: Umderstanding the solar system helps us learn about Earth's place in the universe

The Sun- The Heart of the Solar System

  • Role: The sun is the central star that provides light and heat to the solar system
  • Fun Fact: The Sun accounts for 99.86% of the total mass of the solar system

The Inner Planets

  • Mercury: Closets to the sun, known for extreme temperature fluctuations
  • Venus: similar size to earth but with thick, toxic atmosphere
  • Earth: our home planets, the only one known to support life.
  • Mars: Known as the Red planet due to iron oxide on its surface

The Outer Planets

  • Jupiter: Largest planet, famous for its Great Red Spot storm
  • Saturn: Known for its stunning rings made of ice and rock
  • Uranus: Unique for its titled axis causing extreme seasons.
  • Neptune: Known for strong winds and dark storms

Other Celestial Bodies

  • Moons: Natural satellites that orbit plantes, Earth's moon affects tides
  • Asteroids: Rocks objects mostly found in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter
  • Comets: Icy bodies that devlop tails when near the Sun.
