Bill Nye
Bill Nye is an influential advocate for science and CEO of the Planetary Society. He has also made contributions to NASA's Mars Rover. His most noteable achievement has been making science exciting for both children and adults for many years with his popular television show "Bill Nye the Science Guy."

1. How do you personalize instruction for those who need it most? "I pull small groups daily and every Friday the students perform in a game show type review of low performing TEKS."
2. What strategies do you use to determine if a lesson has met its learning objective?
I use quick informal assessments at the end of each lesson and keep track of which students are still having difficulties.
3. How do you make science interesting and applicable for all students? "My students rotate through different labs on a weekly basis."
4. What specific programs would you like to see implemented for struggling learners? "I would like for science to be more of a focus for lower grades instead of waiting until it is tested."
5. Do you focus more on strengths or weaknesses? "I try to focus on both, I use a students' strengths to help build up their weaker areas."
The previous video is an excellent science lesson. The teacher draws on prior schema and delivers very hands on student centered instruction. She uses a variety of teaching methods to reach all learners and holds students accountable. She takes time to make sure that all students are actively engaged. The worm activity is a kinesthetic lesson that is full of academic vocabulary that I am sure the students will never forget.
