Mining usually takes place in the northern part of Minnesota. Clay is mined in the Minnesota river valley. Manganese, copper, nickel and titanium are also mined in Minnesota.
A great amount of fish and animals that live in or around the water or even drink the water are greatly affected and could die. This could also happen to humans.
PolyMet is working to open one of Minnesota's first copper/nickel mine. They need $250 million to develop a safer mining and processing practice for the environment.
