What we know about history?

Primary Source

  • A piece of evidence that was present during or created during a particular event or time period and provides a "firsthand" account.

Secondary Source

  • Evidence that was created AFTER an event or time period and provides a "secondhand" account of what happened.

Sourcing

  • The act of questioning the trustworthiness of a piece of evidence.
  • How might bias or perspective shape a story?

Contextualization

  • Contextualization places a piece of evidence in a certain place in space (where) and time (when.)

Corroboration

  • Comparing two or more pieces of evidence and seeing where the facts overlap or where they differ.
