History and Background

A speech pathologist has been a relevant profession in the U.S since the 1900s to the 2000s.
It has profession origin placed in around 1925. It was divided into four periods: Our Formative Years, The Processing Period, The Linguistic Era, and The Pragmatics Revolution. A historic event that has changed this career is immigration because of the diversity of languages in students have made this career more difficult.

A famous person today who shares this career is Joanne Schieble Simpson, which is the mother of the Apple founder Steve Jobs. She was a Speech-language pathologist who was very successful after attending the University of Chicago. She then became a meteorologist.

- to obtain this career its best to do some job shadowing and go to a school that offers the correct classes because it is a competitive field.

The time of day a speech pathologist varies on where they are working; a school, hospital, or clinic. But mainly their hours are from 8-4 daily with an average of 40 hours a week.The dress code required is skirts, dresses, formal wear. Within the organization, the individual will report to the organization in charge, at a school it would be the principal. Speech pathologists will meet with the principals and parents and discuss the progress that the student is making and touch base on what they should be improving on at home and in the future. The income for this job is an average of $58,000. They are paid by salary. Benefits for this job are holidays/Summer's off depending on if your in a school, good pay, retirement funds, insurance, and more.

Job Reflection and Outlook: A challenging part about this career is developing patients to help someone. They would be struggling without my help and I have to stay patient and work with them for as long as it takes. Positive perks are that its not a difficult job, good pay, and I can work with children. Trends that would affect someone entering this position would be which environment to decide to work in because each one is different. The job market is increasing 21%. This job has been affected by that economy because the majority of clinical activities and knowledge areas were not being learned in the appropriate places.

I think that this career will start to increase jobs for the future. It has a bright outlook and the competition is growing. Local business that offer positions for this career is Fraser Public Schools, Beaumont Hospital,ResCare, ProCare Therapy, and more. This career benefits our society because it helps change the way people talk for the better, it helps them recover from their impediments and change their life to a normal everyday life.

Conclusion
This career is very important in our society today because it can change a persons life. Without it, someone who has a speech problem would most likely not get the correct help they need to be able to speak normal for their life. This career would be a good profession for me because it's something I enjoy now and I love to help others. I would like it because I would see a positive change in my students/patients and I love to see others improve because of my help.
