PRESENTATION OUTLINE

FRANKENWEENIE

ADAPTATION

Frankenweenie is an adaptation of Frankenstein in which a child reanimated his dog. Similar to how Frankenstein animated his creature.

COMPARE AND CONTRAST

  • Frankenstein differs from Frankenweenie in the motivation for the procedure. Frankenstein wishes to create a milestone in science whereas in Frankenweenie the child just wants his dog back.
  • Frankenweenie is similar in the art style for the reanimated creatures. They’re both stitched up to the skin. They both are about an obsessive mad scientists attempting to play God.

Frankenweenie is a very loose adaptation of Frankenstein. It’s very lighthearted and it’s apparent in the writing and art style. To understand this film you do not have to have prior knowledge of Frankenstein. Frankenweenie doesn’t even quite capture the themes and styles of Franksenstein, it twists them. This makes it have its own quality identity.

FRANKENWEENIE VS FRANKENSTEIN

  • It changes Frankenstein horror into a spoof or comedy.
  • It doesn’t tackle being an outcast as one of the main themes.
  • The central message of a Frankenstein doesn’t translate to this film.
