In the article “Why is hope important in our lives” by “the Editors” they say that hope helps us to survive by predicting what might happened next or to prepare for an event that may be happening later. Without hope we lose our drive to survive. This article also talks about how hope is attained and how it motivates the human mind to move forward.

MOTIVATION

People are often met with grueling and tough challenges as we live our lives. The question is how are we able to do this? The answer is hope, we are able to overcome our challenges when we feel that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. This understanding motivates us to push harder because we know that there are better times ahead. Or its something that motivates us like a person or a belief that can give us the strength to overcome. Like in “The Scarlet Letter” Hester Prynne found that her hope came from her daughter Pearl, and she believed that she must do her best to raise her, this hope allowed her to forget her own shame and problems to properly raise her child regardless of her own issues.

GUIDANCE

Not only does hope motivate us to do better, but it also guides our actions and helps us to do what is right. When we are under lots of stress mistakes are often made because of the wrong mindset we are in. Hope allows the mind to clear and focus on a straight path towards a better decision. Hope protects us from thinking wrong things and fill our minds with doubt and anxiety, once we have something to believe in, we have something to focus our efforts on.

RELATION TO NOVEL

Like mentioned before, hope is a great tool for people to have. In “the Scarlet Letter” Hester Prynne is a prime example of how hope can change someone’s life drastically. In the book Hester Prynne is constantly in a state of suffering. Her scarlet letter reminds her of her sin and how she had done wrong. People scorn her and she is left by herself to raise her daughter. Even after all of this Hester saw her hope in Pearl and was able to stay strong and fight against the odds of her situation.
