PRESENTATION OUTLINE

RAINFOREST BIOME

By Victoria St. Louis

Rainforests make up about 7% percent Earth’s surface. They recieve more than 100 inches of rain per, stay humid all year long, and temperatures ranging from 93 degrees to 63 degrees. They produce more 40% of Earth’s oxygen, can contain from 100 to 300 species different trees in 2 ½ acres.

The Jaguar, or Panthera onca, is a well known Apex predator in the rainforest. They are similar to the Leopard, but it stands stronger and sturdier. It plays an important role in the rainforest by prey consumption and control.

  • Berries -> Deer -> Jaguar
  • Starts at 10,000 units of energy for the berries, then 1,000 to the deer, then the Jaguar only recieves 100 units of energy.

RAINFOREST PARROTS HAVE ADAPTED TO LIVING IN THE RAINFORESTS AND EVEN ON SAVANNAHS AND MOUNTAINS. RAINFOREST PARROTS FEED ON SEEDS, FRUITS, ROOTS, NECTAR, FUNGI AND WOOD-BURROWING INSECTS.

KEYSTONE SPECIES

  • The Agouti, or Dasyprocta punctata, are rodents who forage seeds on the forest floor. They are common prey.

INVASIVE SPECIES

  • The Wild Boar, or Sus scrofa, is an extremely harmful invasive species in the rainforest due to the foreign diseases and destruction of flora both when it came from Europe and now.
