TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD BY HARPER LEE

PRESENTATION BY CLAIRESSA WATKINS

How does parents' view on racial differences impact their child's view?

Imitation/Teaching

In the article "How do parents' own biases impact their children?" Alvy discusses how parents can unconsciously convey their views through "especially facial expressions and posture and body language" (Alvy 1). He goes on to discuss how parents can also make it more obvious by, "actually [talking] about their biases out loud (and) parents [telling] children they don't want them associating with a certain group of people" (Alvey 1). This is not always just about another racial group, it can be towards their own ratial groups.

Same Page

Dr. Alvey also brings up how parents not being on the same page about what to teach their child "puts the child in a difficult position" (Alvy 2). They have a o decide which parent they see as right, and this can be hard on a child. It can also make it harder to even choose a view they agree with.

Loyalty

Children feel a sense of loyalty to follow the beliefs of their family, so when there are two views it confuses them on what choice to make. They want to please their parents. The child does not want to see their parents upset. They want to them happy, so they will do Children feel a sense of loyalty to follow the beliefs of their family, so when there are two views it confuses them on what choice to make what it takes, like choosing the same views as them.

The Start

Children learn from their parents. Children imitate their parents.Children want to please their parents. If a child sees their mother or father act a certain way to different racial groups, they are gonna act the same way. A parent believes certain things about racial groups, their child is gonna believe the same thing. Children want to be like their parents.
