WHO IS JACQUES CARTIER?

  • JACAUES Cartier was a French explorer
  • He was born in st. malo France in 1491.
  • He died near st. mallo in 1557
  • When his explorations were over he became a businessman
  • Was Married to a woman named Marie Catherine.

WHAT DID MY EXPLORER DO?

  • He discovered Canada but it was first called New France.
  • Established trade routes with the Indigenous people.
  • Claimed Gaspe bay for the king of France
  • He was trying to find a new sailing route called the northwest Passage to Asia for riches.
  • He made 3 journeysacross the Atlantic Ocean to New France.

WHERE DID MY EXPLORER DO HIS EXPLORATIONS?

  • He discovered Canada
  • He explored Brazil, Laborador, Newfoundland, and the Atlantic Ocean.
  • He Sailed Up and down The St. Lawrence River.

WHEN DID MY EXPLORER GO EXPLORING?

  • He went exploring in 1534, 1535 and 1541
  • He made three journeys across the Atlantic Ocean
  • He sailed the St. Lawrence river
  • He went back to new France to make settlement.

WHY DID MY EXPLORER GO EXPLORING?

  • He went exploring because he was ordered by the king of France to find riches and gold from Asia.
  • He wanted to trade his goods for gold.
  • He was looking for a shorter sailing route to Asia.

HOW DID MY EXPLORER EXPLORE?

  • He Used Maps and compasses to navigate his way on the ocean.
  • He ate biscuits, sausage, beef, pork , cheese, onions, dried beans, oatmeal, butter, sugar, peas and salted and fresh fish.
  • He wore warm clothes.
  • He used boats and ships.

HOW DID THINGS CHANGE AFTER MY EXPLORER DIED ?

  • He is regarded of one of the most important explorers.
  • He claimed a territory for France which is now called Canada
  • After he had named Canada, Canada started being used on Maps.
  • He started trade with the indigenous people.
  • There are many historical landmarks all over in his honour.

REFLECTIVE COMMENT

  • I think my explorer is great because he found Canada.
  • He didn't really kill anybody on purpose so he was kind and honest.
  • He was open minded because he helped the indigenous people by starting trade with them.
  • He learned the indigenous peoples language so that made him a good communicator.
