We'd like to share some answers to some frequently asked questions regarding UFT Elections 2016

When is the next UFT Elections?

  • The UFT ELECTIONS will occur in April of 2016.

Who can vote in the UFT Elections?

  • The UFT has 200,000 members.
  • Most members are teachers, but additional voting members include...

ARE YOU A UFT VOTER?

  • newly appointed or in-service agency fee payer a New York City Department of Education pedagogue, paraprofessional, hourly group or retiree Certain professionals covered by a UFT collective-bargaining agreement

What's this I hear about a CAUCUS?

  • A UFT Caucus is a political group of UFT members formed within the union.
  • Michael Mulgrew is a member of the Unity Caucus.

But Michael Mulgrew has been throwing UFT Members under the bus.

There are 4 CAUCUSES

  • UFT Solidarity
  • New Action
  • Independent Caucus of Educators
  • Movement of Rank and File Educators
  • Unity Caucus

Won't these caucuses split the vote?

  • As of now, UFT Solidarity Caucus has publicized its slate building on www.UFTSolidarity.org/uft2016
  • Solidarity is the "new kid on the block" but due to a sense of urgency we've moved quickly to address the imbalance of representation by announcing for the election early on.

Who else is running?

  • When you receive your ballot by mail in April, you'll be able to see the slates and candidates who are running in the election.

How are votes cast?

  • Votes are cast via paper ballots that you will receive in the mail.
  • It's a goal of ours that we'd be granted the option by the arbitration board to have electronic voting this year, but this would be a first.

What is the difference between UFT Solidarity

...and every other caucus?

The answer to this question would make this presentation very long...but...

We created this presentation as an immediate response to a teacher in need. That's what UFT Solidarity does. We immediately take action when UFT members need support.
