THE GREAT BASIN

NATIVE AMERICAN INDIANS ADAPTATIONS

Flat Baskets
The Native American Indians used flat baskets to carry and transport goods and materials. Flat baskets were very important when moving valuable things. To make the baskets they would use a tool made of rock to peel small strips of wood off of trees. The strips of wood from the trees bends and are easy to use.

To make the baskets they would weave the wood strips together. They had different patterns of weaving in different tribes. Smaller baskets could be made in a couple of hours. Larger baskets might take a day or more.
