NASAL CAVITY

  • Warm air, smell, trap bacteria
  • Blood veins, olfactory receptors,ciliated cells and mucisa gland, conchae

PHARYNX

  • Passageway for food and air
  • Nasopharynx, oropharynx, laryngopharynx

LARYNX

  • Route air and food into proper channels, plays role in speech
  • 8 rigid hyaline cartilage, vocal folds, glottis

TRACHEA

  • Allow expansion when swallowing food, keep patent open, propel mucus
  • Hyaline cartilage, ciliated mucosa

BRONCHI

  • Main bronchus runs obliquely before it plunges into its own side.
  • The right side is wider incase a forgien obj is swallowed
  • Smaller side is for the direct route to lungs to main air sacs

BRONCHIOLES

  • Has reinforced cartilage walls
  • Passageway for air within lungs
