TSAR ALEXANDER II

REFORM POLICIES

  • Emancipated the serfs of Russia
  • Created district epassemblies of elected representatives
  • These assemblies were called zemstvos
  • Created a system of law courts with a trial by jury
  • Had elected justices to reduce judicial corruption

INDUSTRIALIZATION

  • He supported Sergei Wittes policies
  • Partially responsible for trams-Siberian railway
  • Tried to keep industrial workers happy
  • Made maximum working day 11.5 hours for workers
  • Ultimately did little to help workers though

DEATH OF ALEXANDER II

  • He was killed by radical terrorists
  • He was viewed as an oppressor
  • A bomb was placed on his carriage and he was killed
  • After his death he was replaced by Nicholas II
  • Nicholas was much more opressive and cruel.
