NOUNS

  • Proper Nouns: Specific person, place, or thing. (Ex. Cathedral, Coach Carolyn)
  • Abstract Nouns: Something you can experience, not touch. (Ex. Anger, Happiness)
  • Common Nouns: Person, place, thing, or idea. (Ex. Stick, Goal)
  • Concrete Nouns: You can hear it, see it, and touch it. (Ex. Whistle, Cheering)

ADJECTIVE

  • Describes or tells something about nouns or pronouns
  • Kind Coach Carolyn
  • Terrible Anger

  • Loud Whistle
  • Great Cathedral

VERBS

  • Describes actions or states of being
  • Check

ADVERBS

  • Describes or modify's adjectives, verbs, or other adverbs
  • Deliberately Checking

PREPOSITIONS

  • Link nouns and pronouns to the other end of the sentence.
  • Deliberately Checking around her stick.

  • Cautiously Throwing the ball.
  • Carefully Catching the ball to score.
  • Bravely Passing to a teammate.

  • Interrupt a sentence to show surprise and emotion.

PRONOUNS

  • Words that replace nouns
  • Singular- Replace singular nouns (she, he, him, her)
  • Collective- Replace plural nouns (they, they've, them, those)

  • Join two phrases, words, or sentences together
  • You need a stick, mouth guard, AND goggles to play.
  • You got a foul BECAUSE you checked her above the waist.
  • They cheated BUT we still won.
