"The Magic Ratio"
or the ratio of positive interactions to
negative interactions

5:1

(with a ceiling of 13:1)

The Premise:

  • Everyone walks around with a metaphysical "bucket" and "dipper"
  • We fill (or dip) from other people's buckets based on our positive or negative interactions with them
  • Filling other buckets in turn fills our own
  • People will full buckets are happier, healthier, and more productive (9 out 10)
  • Thriving = Maintaining a full bucket

  • Incessant negativity about silly things
  • Social media

  • Give unexpectedly
  • Reverse the Golden Rule

"Next to physical survival, the greatest need of a human being is psychological survival, to be understood, to be affirmed, to be validated, to be appreciated."

To Summarize:

  • Be a filler not a dipper.
  • You need to understand your own bucket levels and then communicate them to others.
  • Filling other buckets in turn fills your own.
  • Thriving = filling up YOUR way
