Background:
A university requests changes concerning instructional tools within its allied health programs

A needs analysis must be performed.

Definition and purpose of a needs:
According to Brown and Green (2016), a needs analysis is used in response to a request for change within an institution. The information gathered during this process will pave the way for a new methodology of instruction

What is the change being requested?

Based upon the school's 2020 annual survey. It was determined that all allied health programs needed a technological upgrade

Reasons for the request.

  • Better simulation scenarios
  • Learning gaps and limitations
  • Outdated technology

Who is requesting the change?
Faculty, students, and community members that work directly with the school expressed a great need for change within the departments.

List of changes needed.

  • More technological tools.
  • Virtual software for simulations.
  • Improved high fidelity scenarios.
  • Training sessions with equipment for better understanding of use within the departments.

Where will the changes take place?

Each allied health program has a set of needs that differentiate them from the others and will require individual assessment

The changes will take place in each allied health department.

Goals and Objectives

  • Improve knowledge retention
  • Increased analytical skills
  • Create more high fidelity scenarios
  • Alignment of ibstpi standards to technological proficiency

Solutions

  • Cares act of 2021 gifted funds to universities for student aid.
  • Nursing gained new mannequins and a one way mirror for observations.
  • Medical assisting gained new microscopes and vital sign equipment.
  • Radiology was given a new portable X-ray machine and a new C- arm.

Solutions Continued

  • All allied health learned anatomy on the new anatomage table which improved gross anatomy recognition.
  • Each improvement provided the necessary changes for improvement within the departments.
  • Data is being conducted for the next annual survey to see if the improvements were successful.
