HISTORY

  • The Spanish arrived in 1510
  • Colombia gained independence in 1824.
  • Colombia had a Civil War in 1899. It lasted until 1902.
  • In the 1960s, Colombia was a very violent place. However, it is now safer thanks to government efforts to get rid of corruption.

CLIMATE

  • Colombia is always very warm.
  • They have a rainy season from May to November.
  • It is very humid in Colombia.

CULTURE

  • In Medellin, Colombia, at Christmastime, Colombians have the Festival of Lights.
  • The Festival of Lights is where citizens decorate their homes, balconies, and rooftops with lights.

  • The Colombian national team made the World Cup in 2014 and got to the quarterfinals.
