Christian and Muslim Creation Stories

Background on: Christianity

  • Christianity is a religion originating from Judism
  • Christianity was was created in the 1st century BC after Jesus was crucified and resurrected
  • Christians believe in God and his son Jesus
  • Christians believe he has three forms: God the father, God the son or Jesus, and God the holy ghost.

Background on: Islam

  • Islam was a religion with its orgins traced to Arabia
  • Scholars generally agree that Islam began in the 7th century BC
  • Muhammand the man who made the religion is believed to be the the last prophet after Jesus, Solomon, Moses, Abraham, and Adam

Creation stories

  • Both creation stories are very similar since in each god made man but man disobade and was kicked out of paradise
  • Both creations have a purpose of telling that if you follow their god that you will be able to access paradise again after death
  • Both also say that humans are suppose to take care of the earth because they are superior to the rest of creation

Literary Analysis

  • Both creation stories heavily use imagery in their stories
  • The tone of the creation stories is a tone of wonder, authority and mysticism, as if it was being told by a high priest or prophet
  • In the christian story the serpent represents mischief and evil
