Responsive Scripture Reading

Dale Best

Leader - Jesus reminds us that what we say reveals what is in our heart. What kinds of words come from your mouth.

People - You brood of snakes! How could evil men like you speak what is good and right? For whatever is in your heart determines what you say.

Leader - That is an indication of what is in your heart. You can't solve your heart problem, however, just by cleaning up your speech.

People - A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. And I tell you this, you must give an account on judgment day for every idle word you speak.

Leader - You must allow the Holy Spirit to fill you with new attitudes and motives; then your speech will be cleansed at its source.

People - The words you say will either acquit you or condemn you.”

Jesus, lover of my soul
Jesus, I will never let you go
You've taken me from the miry clay
Set my feet upon the rock and now I know
I love you, I need you, though my world may fall
I'll never let you go
My savior, my closest friend
I will worship you until the very end.

Your love is amazing, steady and unchanging
Your love is a mountain, firm beneath my feet

Your love is a mystery, how You gently lift me

When I am surrounded, Your love carries me

Your love is amazing, steady and unchanging
Your love is a mountain, firm beneath my feet

Your love is a mystery, how You gently lift me

When I am surrounded, Your love carries me

CHORUS:
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Your love makes me sing
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Your love makes me sing

VERSE 2:
Your love is surprising, I can feel it rising
All the joy that's growing deep inside of me
Every time I see You, all Your goodness shines through
And I can feel this God song, rising up in me

LOVING WITH OUR WORDS

1. THE POWER OF MY WORDS

1. THE POWER OF MY WORDS

1) My words produce either death or life

The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences. – Proverbs 18:21

1. THE POWER OF MY WORDS

2) My words reveal the condition of my heart

“You brood of snakes! How could evil men like you speak what is good and right? For whatever is in your heart determines what you say. A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart.” – Matthew 12:34-35

1. THE POWER OF MY WORDS

3) My words will serve as
evidence at the judgment

“And I tell you this, you must give an account on judgment day for every idle word you speak. The words you say will either acquit you or condemn you.” – Matthew 12:36-37

2. THE PERVERSION OF MY WORDS

2. THE PERVERSION OF MY WORDS

1) My words are naturally sinful

2. THE PERVERSION OF MY WORDS

1) My words are naturally sinful

And the tongue is a flame of fire. It is a whole world of wickedness, corrupting your entire body. It can set your whole life on fire, for it is set on fire by hell itself. – James 3:6

2. THE PERVERSION OF MY WORDS

2) My words are naturally uncontrollable

People can tame all kinds of animals, birds, reptiles, and fish, but no one can tame the tongue. It is restless and evil, full of deadly poison. – James 3:7-8

2. THE PERVERSION OF MY WORDS

3) My words are naturally hypocritical

2. THE PERVERSION OF MY WORDS

3) My words are naturally hypocritical

Sometimes it praises our Lord and Father, and sometimes it curses those who have been made in the image of God. And so blessing and cursing come pouring out of the same mouth. Surely, my brothers and sisters, this is not right! – James 3:9-10

3. THE POTENTIAL OF MY WORDS

3. THE POTENTIAL OF MY WORDS

1) I can ask for salvation

If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved…For “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” – Romans 10:9-10; 13

3. THE POTENTIAL OF MY WORDS

2) I can pray to Almighty God

3. THE POTENTIAL OF MY WORDS

2) I can pray to Almighty God

But when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father in private. Then your Father, who sees everything, will reward you. – Matthew 6:6

3. THE POTENTIAL OF MY WORDS

3) I can worship God

Let everything that breathes sing praises to the Lord! Praise the Lord! – Psalms 150:6
Therefore, let us offer through Jesus a continual sacrifice of praise to God, proclaiming our allegiance to his name. – Hebrews 13:15

3. THE POTENTIAL OF MY WORDS

4) I can share the gospel

3. THE POTENTIAL OF MY WORDS

4) I can share the gospel

And every day, in the Temple and from house to house, they continued to teach and preach this message: “Jesus is the Messiah.” – Acts 5:42

3. THE POTENTIAL OF MY WORDS

4) I can share the gospel

So I am eager to come to you in Rome, too, to preach the Good News. For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes—the Jew first and also the Gentile. – Romans 1:15-16

3. THE POTENTIAL OF MY WORDS

5) I can encourage other people

The Sovereign Lord has given me his words of wisdom, so that I know how to comfort the weary. Morning by morning he wakens me and opens my understanding to his will. – Isaiah 50:4

3. THE POTENTIAL OF MY WORDS

6) I can teach my children

And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today. Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up. – Deuteronomy 6:6-7

3. THE POTENTIAL
OF MY WORDS

7) I can bless others

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Tell Aaron and his sons to bless the people of Israel with this special blessing: ‘May the Lord bless you and protect you. May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you. May the Lord show you his favor and give you his peace.’ Whenever Aaron and his sons bless the people of Israel in my name, I myself will bless them.” – Numbers 6:22-27

May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. – 2 Corinthians 13:14

Time of Invitation

Where He leads me I will follow,
Where He leads me I will follow,
Where He leads me I will follow,
I’ll go with Him, with Him all the way.

Lord, I will lift mine eyes to the hills
Knowing my help is coming from You
Your peace, You give me in time of the storm
You are the source of my strength
You are the strength of my life
I lift my hands in total praise to you
You are the source of my strength
You are the strength of my life
I lift my hands in total praise to you
Amen
