Blue ridge mountains

Hatteras island
Hatteras island is home to the 208 foot tall cape lighthouse the tallest lighthouse in the world. There are diamond shoals located on the island .The national park service estimates that over two million cars stop and look at this lighthouses.

• The coastal plain begins along the fall line a line of hills which stretch from the Sandhills region along the South Carolina border

PIEDMONT

• The piedmont plateau forms the central third of he state.
• Europeans started settling in the region.
• The piedmont borders the coastal plain at the fall line.
