The cardiovascular surgeons at Phoenix Children’s Hospital produce 3-D prints for patients with heart defects. The resulting 3-D print is an accurate representation of a patient’s anatomy and can be used for surgical planning, family consultation and medical education.
For the past two years the lab has produced more than 100 3-D models of hearts, using medical images to replicate the hearts of individual patients.
The lab has collaborated with more than 15 institutions spanning six countries.
Heart models are often brought to the University of Arizona College of Medicine to help teach future doctors and surgeons.
The lab has also produced models for ears, skeletal structures, blood vessels, medical devices, and brains.
