Question

  • Given issues of authenticity and identity is it possible to steal, harm, or otherwise use/abuse someone else's identity and authenticity
  • When this situation occurs it's called "Appropriation"

Cultural Appropriation is defined as:

Islam and Music
Mysticism, Poetry, Dance, and Music

Difference today is wrapped up and around religion. . . we are in a place of historical conflict with very high consequences for global community.

It is crucial that we understand the information and misinformation regarding Islam. For musicians there is much to learn:

Islamic Culture

  • Is foundation for mathematics and science of Western culture
  • Here it is. . . Arabic music is the foundation of Western Classical Music.
  • Both Arab (formerly "oriental") and European Classical embrace Greek music ideals.
Because of contention of differences between these cultures almost no textbook acknowledges this origin or the difficulties we've had in acknowledging it.
