  • Born on May 20, 1776 in Maple Town
  • Died in 1862
  • Father was a loyalist
  • Was named after a strawberry

WHAT DID MY EXPLORER DO?

  • Discovered a route from the Rocky Mountains to the Pacific Ocean
  • Built many forts throughout Western Canada
  • Built the Rocky Mountain Portage House, Fort James, Fort Fraser and Fort George
  • Traveled to the Pacific Ocean

  • His explorations took place in British Columbia

  • First exploration took place in 1805
  • Second voyage was in 1808

WHY DID MY EXPLORER GO EXPLORING?

  • Sent by the Northwest Company to build new forts and continue trading in the west
  • Wanted to find a route from the Rocky Mountains to the Pacific Ocean
  • It was important to start trade at this time

  • Used a compass, a telescope and a sextant
  • He used his knowledge
  • Kept a journal to write about his journeys

HOW DID THINGS CHANGE IN THE WORLD?

  • Found the Fraser river and we now have a route from the Pacific Ocean to the Rocky Mountains
  • Some forts that Fraser found in British Columbia are tourist attractions today
