Open Systems = Interoperability & Adjustability
In 2004, Breeding said, "the many facets of electronic resource management should be delivered through a set of interconnected modules that work together, sharing common data files or at least communicating with each other through open protocols."
Open CUFTS knowledgebase -
For example:
CUFTS makes holdings available as a XML file for harvesting. EBSCO runs a script twice a week that harvests our EBSCO holdings. The script then takes the multiple XML files, combines them into one, and then loads the file to EBSCO's FTP server. This file is then added into a local collection in EBSCOadmin. EDS uses this local collection as a knowledge base to know what titles are in our holdings.
So yes we HAVE 2 knowledgebases, but we only manage 1 :)
