PRESENTATION OUTLINE

The States of Matter

Madysyn Holloway 12/10/14

The four states of matter

  • Solid
  • Liquid
  • Gas
  • Plasma

Solid

  • Solids have a definite shape and volume.
  • The particles in a solid are tightly compact.
  • Attraction between particles are very strong.
  • In a solid particles can't move from one place to another.
Solids have definite shape and volume

Liquid

  • Solids have a definite volume
  • They don't have a definite shape
  • The particle arrangement, they aren't as tightly packed but are able to mov
  • The forces of attraction between a liquids particles is less than a solids
  • The viscosity of a liquid named water is .894
Viscosity means the thickness of a fluid or the stickiness

Gas

  • The particles in gas are spread all out
  • The attraction between the particles are weak
  • It has no definite shape or volume
  • Pure gases are made up of one atom

Plasma

  • The particles are not close together
  • The attraction between the particles is weak also
  • No definite shape or volume
  • The Northern Lights are a type of plasma

How the matter changes states

  • When heat is added or taken away

Why are there different kinds of matter?

  • There are different kinds of matter to keep everything
  • In the universe in order
