WHAT IS A TORNADO

  • It is a cone-like shape that drops from a cloud.
  • They are strong,spinning winds

WHERE DOES IT HAPPEN

  • Mostly happens in open areas such as fields and may happen in cities.
  • They often occur in an area known as Tornado Alley which includes several states.

WHAT MAKES IT DANGEROUS

  • They suck up everything in their path
  • Their wind speed goes 65-85 miles per hour.

PREDICT TORNADOES

  • The doppler radar tracks by looking in the sky.
  • Scientists look for fishhook shapes in pictures.

PROTECT OURSELVES

  • Find a safe place like a basement or a small closet in your home.
  • Always stay away from windows.
  • If outside, lie flat in a field or a ditch.
