Nearly half the worlds population or more than 3 billion people live less than $2.50 a day. Many people resort to things like food stamps or go and try to get help because they are running out of time.
The working poor is simply how it sounds, it's hard working people that work one or more jobs, but they can only afford the bare minimum to survive, meaning food, house payment, ect.
If we could eliminate food off the list of things the working poor had to buy, they would have a lot of more money to spend on other things they need or want in life, especially if they have kids. This is a perfect solution because food is not cheap and there is a nonprofit charity that will help.
This is a non profit charity that help in providing food for people in need of it or who can not afford it. This is a very good charity, they also help with other things too. If this charity could reach out to all the people that are working with low income, it would benefit them greatly and help them pay for other things they need.
The process of getting food to hungry Americans requires a dynamic infrastructure and sophisticated management. Feeding America secures donations from national food and grocery manufacturers, retailers, shippers, packers and growers and from government agencies and other organizations. Feeding America then moves donated food and grocery product to member food banks.
The food banks then in turn distribute food and grocery items through food pantries and meal programs that serve families, children, seniors and others at risk of hunger. Last year alone, the Feeding America network distributed more than 4 billion meals to people in need.
We feel that the feeding America charity is really helping for those in need of poverty. Hunger and poverty often go hand in hand, but poverty is not the ultimate determinant of food insecurity. People living above the poverty line are often at risk of hunger as well. Research demonstrates that unemployment, rather than poverty, is a better predictor of food insecurity among people living in the United States.
Ronald Reagan famously said, “We fought a war on poverty and poverty won.” With 46 million Americans — 15 percent of the population — now counted as poor, it’s tempting to think he may have been right.
An astonishing number of people work at low-Wage jobs. Plus, many more households are headed now by a single parent, making it difficult for them to earn a living income from the jobs that are typically available. The near disappearance of cash assistance for low-income mothers and children , welfare in much of the country plays a contributing role, too. And persistent issues of race and gender mean higher poverty among minorities and families.
This isn’t a problem to the current moment. We’ve been drowning in a flood of low wage jobs for the last 40 years. Most of the income of people in poverty comes from work. According to the most recent data available from the Census Bureau, 104 million people a third of the population, have annual incomes below twice the poverty line, less than $38,000 for a family of three. They struggle to make ends meet every month.
The economy grew for the ninth consecutive year in 2000, with the unemployment rate falling to 4.0 percent, its lowest level in more than three decades. The data on poverty and income released today reflect these developments. These data show the overall poverty rate dropping to its lowest level since 1980 and tying for the lowest level on record.
