  • Anglicization of O’hUgin
  • Irish word meaning Viking
  • Sept or clan of southern UiNiells
  • Originated in Meath and Westmeath
  • Migrated to Connacht, mostly Sligo and Mayo
  • Loyal to Gaelic culture and religion, lost lands in Sligo , 1654.
  • Do we have Viking blood?
  • Photo- where Vikings was filmed in the Wicklow Mtns, south of Dublin.

Higginses mostly in Connacht, 11th in 1901

some in Kildare where one Dublin cousin says where Thomas’s father or grandfather came from.

Currently 79th for Surnames in Ireland!
