It isn't too hard to identify high traffic areas but basically these areas or traffic pathways can be identified by darker areas. Typically this carpet is matted down compared to the rest of the carpet especially with mild-long shag carpet. Just look for common pathways, such as in doorways, to the kitchen, to the couch, around the bed, through hallways. These areas get all the attention so of course they take the most damage over the months.
This is due to dirt buildup, possibly from dirt attracting to carpet fibers because of the oils on our feet or our shoes rub against the fibers as well as track in dirt that gets ground into the fibers. It is quite often that the fibers become permanently damaged because of the high traffic especially when it isn't taken care of often so it is important to keep up on maintenance of these areas.

When cleaning these areas of course you're gonna have to start with the basics. Start with a good vacuuming. These areas are gonna take some more attention compared to the rest of the room because typically the dirt is trapped below the matted down fibers so it is important to take your time when vacuuming the high traffic. once the area is adequately vacuumed you must whip up a batch of fast acting enzyme and spray on the affected area liberally. Using the fast act will start the breakdown process of the dirt and grease and grime buildup on the fibers. once the fast act is applied, it is very important to not start the bonnet cleaning process right away but to allow around 20 minutes dwell time for the fast acting enzyme to effectively prepare the carpet for cleaning.

like with any job you will prepare the 101 cleaning solution but for added cleaning power it helps to use warm water. Because the high traffic area is going to need special attention, this is where we go beyond just a normal maintenance cleaning. To effectively clean this high traffic it helps to add orange deodorizer to the 101 solution as well as citrus boost and quick boost. This culmination has proved to be effective because of the ph balance this mixture achieves and is definitely stronger than a normal cleaning but make sure to not go overboard but only use specified maximum amounts to avoid damaging carpet fibers.

To best approach the cleaning of the high traffic area, it is best to use your Mild woven turf pads because of their thin build and this will apply more pressure to the surface compared to the thicker scrubber pads. This concept is also achieved when using the microfiber pad but the added friction with the microfiber is good for scrubbing and mild heat when scrubbing the effected area. The aggressive finishing towel is the last resort when dealing with high traffic because it allows the most pressure and friction that is possible without damaging the carpet, each pad and towel should be flipped every 1-2 minutes of use for best results.

of course high traffic staining is annoying and it is best for you and your customers to make sure these areas are properly treated after the cleaning. Of course we rake the rest of the room but high traffic areas and matted carpet should be raked more aggressively to agitate the fibers so that they may stand up and properly dry. It is also important for the customer to opt for the fabric protector at least on the high traffic areas so that the carpet will be less susceptible to obtaining harmful oils that attract dirt and cause the darkening of the fibers.

As you and I already know, carpet is expensive and it is important to maintain it, especially the highly used areas that take the brunt of our damaging feet. It is my call to you to make sure those areas are properly cleaned and properly prepared to prevent future damage.
