listen to this plz

  • my welcome to you

do this plz

  • make a tumblr // send me the URL (in an email)
  • make a LinkedIn profile and connect with everyone else
  • update your info on the class roster (link found on main class Blackboard page)
To make your tumblr, go to tumblr.com, sign up and start a new blog.

Please then enter your tumblr name/URL on the class roster Google Sheet found on the Blackboard main class page or this link here:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1yBFHqteElliXtuOn-4MPoNd4dupy0oKTVw_...

Have fun with the title/name. You might consider setting this tumblr up as a long term personal blog and PKM platform. You'll notice on my tumblr that I post articles and things I find interesting; this is really for my own use as a kind of journal and log of things that catch my eye.

If you don't have a LinkedIn profile yet, it's time to make one! Set one up or polish up the one you have already, then connect with everyone in the course (to include me). Networking is a central KM skill; getting comfortable with LinkedIn is good business.

write this plz

  • "Why are you here?"
  • "What is your most pressing KM problem?"
  • note: every "writing" assignment is a 250-750 word tumblr post (that should read like a coherent mini essay)
After making your tumblr, please create two new entries:

1. Why are you here?

2. What is your most pressing KM problem (right now)?

Each tumblr entry should be a mini-essay of 250-750 words. Pics, links to other interesting media, etc. are all welcome and encouraged.

a mini-essay: intro, middle, conclusion; a main thesis or point should be clear immediately in the writing, for example:

"I was recently promoted into a KM specialist role in my organization. I am here to refine my technical KM knowledge and ensure I am qualified to address the various features and responsibilities of my new role..."

discuss this plz

  • go to my tumblr and find the "for wk 1 60303" post; respond accordingly
My tumblr is at hudsonnome.tumblr.com.

As the weeks progress, the main class interaction between students will take place on your tumblrs in the form of responses to your posts. I'll talk more about this next week. In the meantime, please go to my tumblr (listed above), find my Week 1 post and write an appropriate response. (This is to make sure everyone knows how to navigate tumblr and how to create a response to a post).

grade this plz

  • nothing this week
  • note: starting next week, I'll have you begin grading peer tumblrs; I'll be sending out further instructions on what good grading looks like next week

how I grade you

  • an aggregate score from your tumblrs, your peer grading, and any peer grading you've received
  • overall grade is average of averages with lowest week dropped
  • you can submit extra credit anytime

your special project

  • for this week, just start thinking about a current KM problem you'd like to address, solve, work on, etc
In line with the, "Why are you here?" and "What is your most pressing KM problem?" essays, start thinking about a central problem or KM theme you'd like to solve or learn more about. It should relate somehow/creatively to a current work problem.
