Fidel Castro son de Cuba. Fidel es una revolucionisto muy famosa en Cuba.
Castro es Cubiano. Está en Cuba con su hermano Raúl Castro.
Early life:
Fidel was one of six kids, born August 13, 1926, in the Castro-Ruz family. His dad was a wealthy plantation owner. Castro never experienced the poverty of Cubans.
Socialism:
After private schooling, Castro went to Havana. When Castro attended Havana University, he became a member of the Socialist Party. He also had a glorification of his country, Nationalism.
After Castro graduated, he decided to run for the Cuban House of Representatives. But a man named Fulgencio Batista decided to seize power. Castro soon led a revolution against him. Batista was a brutal dictator who ruled Cuba before Castro.
CUBAN REVOLUTION STARTS
- Castro was sent to Mexico after a failed attack at Santiago against the USA-backed Batista.
- Castro met up with Che Guevera and returned to finish what he started.
Guevera was also a socialist. He was part of the revolution too. The two along with Raúl Castro returned on a boat, which was sunk by Batista's men. Eighteen survivors including the trio rushed to the mountains and recruited many to follow the revolution.
Using Guerrilla warfare,"citizens who fight against an existing government," he was able to defeat Castro in 1959. Batista fled to the Dominican Republic and Castro seized control. Cuba was now a Socialist/Communist country. The USA owned property and investments in Cuba; and the USA was anti-communist.
Cuba started to hate the US due to backing Batista. The USA was also angry because they had investments in Cuba, and Castro was getting friendly with the Soviet Union, an enemy of the USA.
Many scuffles with Cuba and the USA broke out, making Cuba a big role in the Cold War.
After Castro came into power, relations with Cuba shut off (lasting till 2014). Then the USA launched the Bay Of Pigs Invasion under JFK. Due to many failures and loyalty to Castro, the civilians/ Cuban Army stopped the invasion. Cuba acquired Soviet missiles to protect themselves.
This started the Cuban Missile Crisis, which led to a standoff. The USA was under threat from a nuclear attack. Finally, The USSR took its missiles back.
Che Guevara was captured by the Bolivian Government in 1967. He was soon executed too. His last words were, "shoot coward you are only going to kill a man."
Che has become a symbol of revolution. Castro lost one of his closest friends

Castro also supported other revolutions in Latin America, and Africa. He instantly became a major symbol of revolution.
After becoming the head of his state, Castro improved his country. Literacy went to 98%, and Cubans got healthcare. But after the collapse of the Soviet Union, the economy went south. Also Cuba was hit hard by Hurricane Michelle. The country hit rough times and many people fled to Miami, Florida. The country is also in poverty, due to no trade coming in since the 60s.
Although he was a major figure in the revolution of Cuba, and revolutions in other Latin/African countries, Castro stepped down and handed power to Raúl Castro in April, 2011. He still remains a big figure in World and Cuban history.
Today: although Castro is not big in world affairs, he still meets with leaders of countries. He is still a major symbol of revolution like Che Guevera.
