PRESENTATION OUTLINE

THE BOSTON TEA PARTY

By Miriam Odle

After the Boston Massacre, Parliament (rule makers of England) agreed to repeal (cancel) all of the unpopular taxes. Except the tea tax.

Colonists then refused to buy tea from Britain, so passed Britain passed the Tea Act. This law made it nearly impossible for the colonists to buy tea from anyone other than the British East India Company. This made the colonists even more angry.

On the night of December 16, 1773, the Sons of Liberty took action. Samuel Adams led a group of men dressed like American Indians onto 3 ships. They threw 342 crates of tea into the Boston Harbor.

This became known as the Boston Tea Party. The people in England were shocked by the colonists' behavior and King George was angry. Parliament began to think of ways to punish the colonists.

The punishments were very harsh. Some of the colonists said that they were so bad they couldn't stand it. These became known as the Intolerable Acts.
