BERLIN CONFERENCE

  • Also known as the Congo conference.
  • Relegated European colonization and African trade.
  • At the time of the conference, 80% of Africa remained under traditional and local control.
  • Fourteen countries were represented by a plethora of ambassadors when the conference opened in Berlin on November 15, 1884.

EUROPEAN IMPERIALISM

  • 2 countries involved are England and France.
  • Reasons were Christianity, Nationalism, and industrialization.
  • Things such as guns and railroads helped their imperialism.
  • Colonial imperialism was used.

IMPERIALISTIC METHODS

  • Strong military
  • Nationalistic
  • Territories around the world
  • Global denomination.

END OF COLONIALISM

  • between 1958 and 1964, 26 African nations gained their freedom.
  • The optimism was short lived because of the Cold War.
  • Caused decolonalization in Ghana.
  • Lots of violence occurred in the end of colonialism.

LASTING EFFECTS

  • Some countries turn out better because of colonialism factors.
  • Poverty
  • Nigeria is an example of the effects it has.
  • Has long term repruccusions.
