They landed in the middle of the sea of tranquility on the moon. The sea of tranquility is near the moon's equator.

The Apollo 11 mission cost 30 billion dollars in funds for everything, they took 850 pounds of core samples to determiner if there was life on the moon, sadly there was none to be found.

The work that made Apollo 11 possible was the Mercury and Saturn missions. Mercury missions were rocket test and the Saturn missions which was sending people into space and observing the effects of zero gravity.
