PRESENTATION OUTLINE

Plasma/Cell Membrane:
>Cell's "Bouncer"; Controls what goes in + out
>Composed of Phospholipid Bilayer

Cell Wall:
>Provides structure + Protection
>Only found in Plant cells

Cytoplasm:
>Clear gelatinous fluid inside the cell
>In Prokaryotes, contains necessary enzymes for carrying out cell processes

Nucleus:
>Control Center of the cell
>Location of Chromatin (DNA)
>Contains nucleolus

Nucleolus:
>Makes ribosomes

Endoplasmic Reticulum:
>Rough has ribosomes attached
>Smooth has no ribosomes
>Transports proteins
>Found in plant + Animal cells

Ribosomes:
>Make proteins
>Found on rough ER or cytoplasm (free)
>Found in plant + Animal cells + prokaryotes

Golgi Apparatus:
>Cellular post office
>Packages + ships proteins

Vacuole:
>Stores water, waste, + food
>Plants have 1 large vacuole
>Some animal cells have none

Mitochondrion:
>Powerhouse of the cell
>Site of cellular respiration
>Found in plant + animal cells

Chloroplast:
>Capture energy from sunlight
>Sight of photosynthesis
>Only in Plants

Lysosomes:
>Contains enzymes that break down cellular waste
>Found in both plant + animal cells

Centriole:
>Aids in cell division
>Only in animal cells

Cytoskeleton

  • >Provides structure, elasticity, + support
  • >Include microfilaments, microtubules, + intermediate filaments

Cillia + Flagella:
>cytoskeletal + membrane projections
>Hair-like (cilia are short + flagella are long)
>Provide movement
