Goals:

The capstone courses will be developed a little differently than your traditional courses in that it is likely that you will work primarily with your advisor to meet the objectives.

Your anticipated graduation date is August 2021! Although BSU does not have a summer commencement, you will be eligible to walk in the winter 2021 commencement ceremony.

Blackboard

  • How to navigate your course
  • How to submit assignments
  • How to communicate
  • Tips to avoid frustration
It is important to utilize the exercises available on the Program Resource Site to help you navigate Blackboard.

The goal is that you spend time on the course content, not on trying to figure out logistics.

Communicating with instructors: Can be done via Blackboard or via personal email or as otherwise designated by the instructor.

Tips:
Draft written assignments in word and copy and paste into Blackboard. This will help with formatting as well as to decrease the likelihood that you'll be 'timed' out of Blackboard.

Subscribe to the course questions forum in each course. This will ensure that you don't miss important updates and you will benefit from other students' questions.

Communicate early. With instructors, with peers. If you know you have a scheduling conflict that will affect deadlines, be proactive and let others know.

Capstone

  • Transitioning from clinician to researcher
  • Identifying measurable and feasible questions
  • Identifying resources and support
  • Keep a timeline in mind
  • Communicate with advisor early and often

Professional Writing

  • You will be writing...A LOT
  • Appropriate Citation and Referencing
  • Evidence Based Arguments
Look at your feedback... take it to heart, integrate it, look things up, and ASK QUESTIONS.

APA format is required. If you are unfamiliar, spend some time getting to know the requirements
OWL Purdue Writing Lab is a wonderful resource:
https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/apa_style/apa_formatting_a...

You need to substantiate your work by integrating the evidence. This means that you will spend a lot of time looking at published academic works. There is a library guide available to you for quick access to some of the most used databases.
