PRESENTATION OUTLINE

The History of The Atomic Theory

BY TRAVIS SCOTT

JOHN DALTON

  • 1766-1844
  • English Meteorologist, Chemist and physicist
  • Found out in 1803 that matter was made up of atoms.
  • founded that atoms created the pressure in gas.
  • John dalton is important to the world because he is the reason we are able to pressurize gas.

J.J. THOMSON

  • 1856-1940
  • Professor / Physicist
  • determined that the atom was sphere and electrons orbited around it. in 1904
  • Played a key role in unlocking the atom
  • without this man we might not have be as far in unlocking the atom as we are today.

EARL RUTHERFORD

  • 1871- 1937
  • Held Experiments 1909-1911
  • These expirement led to the planetary model
  • played a key role in understanding how the atom looks
  • Without this man we might not have had as much of an accurate depiction of the atom.

NEILS BOHR

  • 1885-1962
  • Made rutherfords atomic structure
  • determined electrons stationary orbit
  • played a key part in unlocking electrons
  • without this man we might think electrons were in the nucleus.

IRENE CURIE

  • 1897-1957
  • Contributed to the synthesis of elements
  • Was partnered with her husband.
  • French physicist
  • Without this woman we wouldn't have the knowledge to make compounds.

ROBERT MILLIKMAN

  • 1868-1953
  • Determined the charge of an electron in 1909
  • Was able to do this through expirement a in Chicago
  • this experiment has given us the knowledge to calculate mass of an atom

THE SIGNIFICANCE

WITHOUT THESE SCIENTISTS WE WOULDN'T HAVE ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT SUBJECTS TODAY.
