Puritanism is the fear that "somewhere someone is having a good time"

Roles of Men&Women

  • Men were head of household and responsible for guiding family along religious path
  • Women's biggest role was as a mother and worked to produce and raise the next generation of puritan women- limited rights

  • Puritans were often percieved as kill-joys
  • they had restrictions and rules yet still managed to have fun
  • Still drank and enjoyed other activities

Physical Activities

  • Puritans didn't want people playing sports because they feared injuries and gambling
  • on the other hand, they approved hunting and wrestling
  • speed spinning competitions for women
