NATIONAL YOUTH ADMINISTRATION (NYA)

ESTABLISHED ON

PURPOSE

• Help children go to school so they could have an education
• Find jobs for unemployed people from ages 16-24

BENEFITS CHILDREN

• Gives an education
• Helps prepare kids for jobs in the future

SUCCESFULL

• Helped 2.1 million kids find jobs
• The out-of-school program helped 2.6 million children not in school

NOT AROUND TODAY

• The NYA's priorities shifted when in 1939, unemployment began to wane and war approached. The NYA began to teach skills training in defense-related industries. Although the NYA was successful, as wartime spending increased, Congress refused to continue funding the program and abolished the NYA in 1943.
