CROSS-CULTURAL INTERACTIONS

BY: JOSEPH CHEN

Marco Polo
Along the way, I had met people of Sumatra, Ceylon, India, and Arabia. We went to notable cities, among them was Beijing. The most notables landmarks were the Gobi Desert, Pamir Mountains, and the great palace Xanadu. I arrived in China on the date of 1271. Some special occasions that occurred that may have occurred was the celebration of Genghis Khan's birthday and other holidays that were unlike that of Europe's. I had participated in diplomatic relations with other societies and the escort of a Mongolian princess on the date of 1292. Some trade that I had noticed were the exchange of gold, jewelry, silk, and spices. By 1295, I went back to Venice.

Ibn Battuta
Across my journey, I met various cultures such as the Moroccans, Mai, Chinese, Tanazanian, and other islanders within that range. I visited the holy city of Mecca. In 1330, I left for China, possibly encountering the famed city of Beijing. A major landmark of my journey was the Red Sea. In 1332, I decided to go to India, where I greeted the Sultan of Dehli. Special occasions that occurred were the celebrations prevalent throughout cultures whenever there was a holiday or an important person's birthday. I participated in political activities, even temporarily becoming a judge in India. By 1355, I returned to my homeland of Tangier. I witnessed trades of gold, jewelry, silk, and spices.
