history

  • Sputnik I was launched by the Soviet Union on October 4, 1957
  • It looks like a basketball and weighs 183 pounds
  • About 98 minutes it will orbit around Earth
  • Some had fear that Sputnik I could carry nuclear weapons. 
  • Sputnik II had to carry a heavier payload and a dog too.

  • It is the first satelliate
  • A series of any Earth orbiting spacecraft 
  • Launched by the Soviet Union
  • Orbited until the 1958 when it was entered againin Earth atomsphere
  • means companion

  • It was a contribution to International Geo. Year 1957-1958
  • It provided an opportunity for the meteriod detection
  • The losses of the inside pressure of the meteriod would be evidence of temp
  • Can be seen in the museums
